School-based environmental awareness activities
Eco Schools involves pupils in developing an environmental management system for their school to achieve a recognised award. Through a series of workshops looking at topics like energy, water usage and waste, the school can start to reduce its environmental impact and make cost savings. The pupils disseminate this information to the local community, thereby having a direct impact on the local and global environment.
What’s in your school grounds helps develop Numeracy and Literacy Skills by using the environment of the school grounds as a case study. In addition to improving basic skills it makes pupils more aware of their environment.
Supergrounds has a direct impact on the
local environment as Groundwork supports the school and its pupils
to develop their school grounds to enhance their appearance and
provide additional facilities. The pupils invariably develop
greater understanding and care for their school grounds as a result
of their involvement. The process can involve planning, design and
implementation as well as aftercare.
Fair Trade workshops help raise the awareness of primary school children around the issues of production within the developing world, Fair Trade, and its impact on the environmental economy. This links with sustainable development and citizenship.
