Healthy Young People
Groundwork has developed a range of environmental activities that improve the health of the young people taking part.

The Diggers’ Club has been developed in
partnership with Age Concern and Social Services. As well as
providing a healthy activity for the young people, it offers a
valuable and much needed service to older people by helping them
with their gardening. It benefits the community as a whole by
improving the general environment and creating better understanding
between the young and old, helping change attitudes particularly
around anti-social behaviour. As part of the programmme the young
people set up and manage a tools library.

Healthy Lifestyles has been
designed to tackle the problem of obesity caused by inactivity and
poor eating habits. Developed in partnership with local football
leagues and Primary Care Trusts, the programme gives young people
an insight into options available around participating in sports
activities and healthier eating. Learning is accredited with the
City & Guilds ‘Profile of Achievement’
qualification.
Bike Clubs encourage young people to take part in cycling as part of organised after school activities. This helps reduce the potential for anti-social behaviour whilst getting the young people fit. They learn to make informed safe choices and how to maintain their bikes.
