Personal Development
Personal Development Programmes
Motiv8 is a personal development
programme developed by the Black Country team which is now
delivered by Groundwork trusts across the country. It is aimed at
young people between the ages of 13 and 17 who are not reaching
their full potential within the school environment and who are at
risk of exclusion (on average 9,000 pupils each day are not in
school due to fixed-term or permanent exclusions).
Partners, including schools and Connexions, refer students to Groundwork. Whilst taking part in Motiv8, young people complete an environmental project or challenge in their neighbourhood and set self-improvement goals, which in turn improves self-esteem and confidence. Progress and learning is accredited with the City & Guilds ‘Profile of Achievement’ qualification.
CoPE, the Certificate of Personal Effectiveness, reflects personal development and an increase in employability skills which lead to increased personal effectiveness. The ASDAN accredited award can provide points towards a GCSE and is achieved by undertaking challenges such as implementing environmental improvements in the local area. Participating contributes to the personal, social and health education (PSHE) as well as citizenship.
